Privacy Policy — Avydel Karaoke

The short version. Avydel Karaoke does not collect personal information, does not use analytics, and does not sell or share anything with anyone. Your voice is analysed on your own computer and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. If you buy Pro, the extension contacts our licence server to check that your key is valid — that request contains only your licence number and a random ID for your browser.

Your microphone

When you press Start Karaoke, the extension asks your browser for microphone access and analyses the pitch of your voice in real time, entirely inside your own browser.

Audio is never recorded to a file.
Audio is never uploaded anywhere.
Audio is never stored, not even temporarily on disk.
The microphone is released as soon as you stop karaoke or leave the page.

Only the numeric result of the analysis — your score — is kept, and only on your own computer.

What is stored on your computer

The extension uses your browser's local extension storage for:

Your song history: video title, score, grade, date, and the singer name you typed in yourself if you enabled it.
Your settings: microphone choice, mic volume, echo level.
How many songs you have scored today, so the free daily limit works.
Your Pro licence key and activation, if you bought Pro.

This data stays in your browser. It is not synced to us. Removing the extension deletes all of it. You can clear your song history at any time from the extension's History tab.

Network requests

Free users: the extension makes no network requests at all.

If you activate a Pro licence, the extension contacts our licence server to confirm the licence is valid and to count how many devices are using it. Each request contains:

your licence key (which contains the name, email address and order reference you gave when buying);
a random identifier generated for your browser, which is not linked to you or to any other identifier;
a generic device label such as "Chrome on Windows".

This happens when you activate Pro and roughly twice a day afterwards. No information about what you watch, what you sing, or your scores is ever sent. If you prefer not to make these requests, do not activate a Pro key — the free tier is fully offline.

What we never do

No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking.
No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels.
No third-party scripts loaded into YouTube pages.
No reading, collecting, or transmitting of your browsing history.
No selling or transfer of data to third parties.
No use of any data for purposes unrelated to scoring your singing.

Permissions, and why each one exists

storage — to save your scores and settings on your own computer.
alarms — to re-check a Pro licence in the background about twice a day.
access to youtube.com — to show the karaoke panel on the video player and know when a song is ending, so it can score you.
access to our licence server — used only to validate a Pro licence key.

Children

Avydel Karaoke is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change and the updated policy will be published at this address. Material changes to how data is handled will also be disclosed in the extension itself.
